Volunteer

Volunteering at Hidden Gems is more than just helping in a resale store—it’s about being part of a Christ-centered community. As a volunteer, you’ll be surrounded by fellow believers who share a heart for service and a desire to bless others. You’ll experience the joy of knowing your time and talents directly support the mission of CareNetworkCR, helping meet both the physical and spiritual needs of our community. Whether you’re connecting with customers, sorting donations, or decorating for a seasonal flip, you’ll find encouragement, fellowship, and purpose in serving alongside others. Many volunteers say it feels like joining a family—one where faith is lived out in action every day.

Volunteer Positions:

Cashier 

At Hidden Gems, our cashiers are the friendly faces who help create a welcoming and peaceful shopping experience. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a Christ-centered environment, and being part of a mission-driven team.

Responsibilities:

  • Use our Square point-of-sale system to process purchases (very user-friendly and simple to learn).

  • Greet each customer warmly and provide helpful, kind service.

  • Maintain a tidy and inviting checkout area.

  • Wear a provided nametag during shifts.

  • (Optional) Assist with additional tasks such as:

  • Tagging clothing

  • Restocking items on the sales floor

  • Helping with displays and merchandising
     

Shifts:

  • Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM or 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, or 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Expectations:

  • Present yourself neatly (jeans are fine, we just ask you to look put-together).

  • Show kindness and respect to customers, staff, and fellow volunteers.

  • Be open to helping as little or as much beyond cashiering as you’d like—your involvement is up to you!

Backroom 

Our Backroom Volunteers are the heartbeat of Hidden Gems. This team makes sure donations are cared for, sorted, and prepped so they can bless our customers and support the mission of CareNetworkCR. The role is flexible, hands-on, and allows you to choose how you’d like to serve.

Flexibility:

  • Create your own schedule – come when it works best for you.

  • Serve as often or as little as you’d like—whether that’s weekly or just occasionally.
     

Opportunities:

Backroom volunteers can choose their tasks based on their interests, skills, and energy levels. Options include:

  • Sorting housewares

  • Sorting clothing

  • Pricing housewares

  • Hanging and tagging clothing

  • Sorting and pricing linens

  • Assisting with jewelry

  • Cleaning and tidying the backroom and store areas

Additional Involvement:

  • Greet and talk with donors as they drop off items.

  • Share about Hidden Gems and CareNetworkCR’s mission when appropriate.

  • If physically able, assist donors by helping carry in donations.
     

What We’re Looking For:

  • Friendly and welcoming personality.

  • Willingness to serve in a Christ-centered, team-oriented environment.

  • Flexibility to contribute where you’re most comfortable.

Seasonal Flip

Our Seasonal Flip Volunteers make Reveal Nights possible! Three times a year—Spring, Fall, and Christmas—Hidden Gems closes for one evening to transform the entire store with fresh seasonal merchandise. Volunteers are the ones who make this big switch happen, and it’s always a fun, energetic night of teamwork.

Commitment:

  • Just three evenings a year: Spring, Fall, and Christmas Reveals

  • 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM on setup nights

  • Come to one, two, or all three—it’s up to you!
     

What You’ll Do:

Volunteers help flip the store by working in a section of their choice. Opportunities include:

  • Clothing – organizing, stocking, and arranging new displays

  • Housewares – setting out dishes, décor, and household treasures

  • Linens – laying out bedding, pillows, and seasonal textiles

  • Seasonal Décor – staging and decorating for the upcoming season
